Frank de Koning has a modern biodynamic greenhouse horticulture company with four locations in Brielle and Tinte. Peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and aubergines are grown in rotation in Frank’s greenhouses.
One of the requirements for certification is that the plants are in the soil and not on substrate. It makes sense, says Frank: ‘Growing good-quality organic products is only possible in an environment where soil fertility is in order, which allows strong plants to develop that have natural resilience. A strong plant is less susceptible to fungi and diseases, which means that intervention by the grower is much less necessary. So everything starts with the basics: the soil.”
